Look On The Bright Side

I love to wake up to the sound of birds chirping on my alarm clock. For years, I have been able to use this particular choice of alarm clock sound to wake me up every morning. I did not realize how picking this particular alarm clock sound would not do me any favors in the future.

There have always been a family of cardinals living around my house. The male is always very happy and sings his songs in the early morning daylight hours everyday from the telephone pole behind my house.

Out of the blue, this little guy has changed his morning routine of singing and is now starting in the early morning hours while it is still dark outside (around 5AM).

Like I said, I did not do myself any favors by picking an alarm clock sound that sounded like birds. Guess what? At 5AM when this little cardinal starts his day and sings his little heart out, it wakes me up every single time.

As a result, my sleep cycle has been suddenly interrupted nearly every morning. I am a little more tired than usual everyday. After my normal cup of tea that usually wakes me up, I am still yawning like crazy. I started fixing myself a pot of tea. Drinking a whole pot of tea has the same result. Lol!

Tune In

This week has been harder than I expected in a lot more ways than just being a little more tired than normal. No arrows of the enemy have been flying as thoughts or lies in my head. More like I have felt oppressed. My emotions have been like a hurricane. That is not normal for me. I am more a head than a heart person.

My cousin Amyโ€™s journal

This last Monday, I saw more posts on Instagram about plugging into scripture more. This made me realize that I wasn’t the only person struggling. Yes, I did spend more time reading some scripture.

That night, I still needed something else to lift my spirit. I thought about journaling. Honestly, I did not want to write. All of sudden, I thought of my cousin Amy’s journal (definitely a Spirit thing).

My cousin Amy lived most of her life with M.S.. She was an amazing lady who loved Jesus, had such a kind heart, and loved learning and reading. At her memorial service, I was told that there were around 12 or so boxes of journals. I assume that journaling is how she coped with life. (My parents brought me back a couple of her journals.)

The journal you see up above is filled with quotes, stories, newspaper clippings, pictures from various magazines, and much more. What a priceless gift this has been to me! It was exactly what I needed!

Difficult roads often lead to beautiful destinations.

(I have always loved this quote!)

The greatest gift that I have experienced in these past months is the time to nurture my soul.

In the mornings, I wake up, fix my tea, meditate on scripture verses, pray, sometimes journal, and read my Bible. That routine looks different everyday. I have the freedom to take as much time as I want or need to spend with God.

This whole time of life has been a game changer for me. I know that is a good thing. I have had the time to evaluate or take inventory of my life. Really re-evaluate the different rhythms of my life to determine what I need to change.

What about you? Is there anything you could do better or different on a day to day basis?

Choose Wisely

Even for me, the past days and weeks have been a struggle to be grateful and positive for life in general. I may be a little more tired. (Thank you, Mr. Cardinal!) My emotions may be a little bit more abnormal. When I shift my focus (or even make myself shift focus) to recognize how blessed I am, I know that life is good!

If we can choose to be more grateful and positive, we can keep ourselves from a downward spiral into negativity, loads of stress and anxiety, and depression.

Let’s choose to look on the bright side!

What To Do

Announcing the last blog post in this series ‘What To Do’!

This Friday I will post the last post in this series. It has been amazing how sharing about life with you has caused a ripple effect in my life.

Personally, I have been more joyful and busy with everyday life. More vocal and involved on social media.

Thank you for letting me share my ramblings. Giving you ideas on ‘What To Do’.

As an introvert, this new time of life that we have found ourselves in has been somewhat easy for me. I still miss seeing my friends and family. I am going a little bit stir crazy myself. This is partly of my own doing…lol!

My Next Series – Wellness

As we move forward with our lives, there is going to be a new normal in everyday living.

It is important that we do not live in fear. There is a lot to be done for our physical, emotional, and mental well being.

Happy Wednesday everyone!

My last post from my ‘What To Do’ series will post this Friday after 5:30PM CST.

Until then…

Bird Watching

The cooler weather has been incredible. I have taken advantage!

Yesterday, I sat outside for about 20mins watching a family of cardinals hanging out around the bird feeders in the backyard.

Cardinals are so so pretty! The male always wakes me up around 6AM singing his little heart out. Every single day I’m thinking, ‘How can you be so perky without caffeine?’. Really?!?

When I was sitting outside today, I saw a blue heron fly on by.

Take some time to enjoy the little things around you like the flowers and the birds.

My mom’s rose bushes have exploded. So beautiful! Wanted to share.

Hope everyone has a lovely weekend!

Until next time…

May the 4th Be With You!

As this day approached on the calendar, I was not expecting to feel so sad.

It has been nearly a month since my Uncle B passed away. He was an avid Stars Wars fan.

He also did the greatest yoda impression!! I am going to miss him so much! Miss hearing his yoda impression that always made me giggle!

Just needed to share!

Until next time…

Go, enjoy the outdoors!

Happy May everyone!

Personally, I am not a ‘go for walk’ kind of person unless I am at the park with friends and/or family. I do love walking trails.

I am more than content to hang out in the backyard with the dogs.

As summer is approaching, I encourage you to enjoy the weather before it gets super hot outside (speaking as a Texan).

Until next time…

One Day At A Time

Happy Friday everyone!

I have enjoyed writing this series. I had a handful of ideas left to write about and realized each post would amount to a few minuscule blog posts.ย  That is why I chose to combine them into one post. When I saw that this would my tenth post, I thought this would be a great way to end this series.

More Ideas for ‘What To Do’

Normally, the limited amount of time before the work day begins provides little time to fix a nutritious breakfast. Usually, I would grab and go. What about you? Now, there is plenty of time to fix a normal breakfast.

When you work a normal 9 to 5 job, there is not as much time to allow for reading. How many books do have on a ‘To Read’ or ‘Want to Read’ list? Now there is a little bit more time to catch up and read some of the books that you have on your list.

Personally, I spend a lot of time working on the computer.

My prefered method of reading is on a device like my Kindle. When my eyes are tired after a long day of work, the last thing I really want to do is look at another screen so I listen to audiobooks.

Play Games

Have more game nights. There are tons of card and board games to be played.

My top favorites:

  1. Skip-bo
  2. Clue (There is also a Downton Abbey version of Clue.)
  3. Sequence
  4. Gin Rummy

iPhone/iPad games

I have my normal games that I play on my iPhone and iPad.

  1. Angry Birds – any version
  2. Asphalt 9 – easier to play on an iPhone
  3. Covet
  4. Design Home
  5. SimCity
  6. Legendary – Yes, this is an RPG game. Bottom line, if you like matching games with deeper strategy I highly recommend it.

I encourage you to take each day one at a time. Keep moving forward and don’t stress. Hope this series has given you some ideas for ‘What To Do’.

I was inspired to created a simple, bright, and cheery design piece to add to my Motivation Collective store.

Spring is Nearly Here

I love winter! Mainly because in Texas it is the only time of the year that I can wear layers, cute sweaters, and scarves.

Spring is a fun season too! Bringing in flowers of all colors and birds of all kinds.

Today, I sat and watched as a handful of different species of birds (cardinals, woodpecker, and finches) ate and ate from the feeders in the backyard. It was so relaxing and entertaining to see all the different birds in action.

In times of uncertainty, it is an amazing reminder of what a creative and faithful God I serve.

(I tried to get a few pics with my Nikon, but the battery was completely dead. Oh,well!)

Until next time…
