To the Graduates of 2020

I love the scene in The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, after the meeting in Rivendell, the fellowship is officially setting off towards Mt. Doom, and Frodo does not know where he is going and has to ask Gandalf.

It is okay to not know where you are going. Life is a journey or an adventure. It is unpredictable and filled with so many ups and downs and twist and turns. Frodo and Sam made so many mistakes along their journey to Mt. Doom. Spoiler alert: Eventually, they made it to Mt. Doom and The Ring was destroyed!

During days like today, the path may not be a clear one. What you thought you knew, you really did not. Dreams you thought were coming true. A college you wanted to attend. That job you had set your sights on. You were confident it was a done deal.

In Reality…

God knows, “…plans to prosper you…” – Jeremiah 29:11

That job you thought was a done deal, or the college you wanted to attend. God knew you were not going to get it or in.

The dreams that you had…God does not want you to lose heart! He knew you were going to have to readjust the dreams you had because now those dreams are going to look different than what you pictured them to be.

Graduates of 2020…That is okay. You will be okay because God knows best!

The Unexpected Twist and Turns

I graduated from college in the year 2010. The economy had plummeted, and most people that were looking for a job could not find one. (Eventually, I did.)

I thought I wanted to be a graphic designer. I loved designing websites. Years down the road (about 5), I realized that designing graphics or anything else on the job made me so stressed out and miserable. I wanted to enjoy the work I had to complete 8 hours a day and 40 hours a week.

This realization was in the midst of looking for a job. Out of nowhere (Not out of nowhere for God!), I got a call to interview for a graphic design position. In reality, they were interviewing for an instructional design position (writing and designing). I got hired for this position! It was pretty exciting!

The first day I walked into the office, my supervisor explained to me that we were writing and designing presentations for teaching aircraft maintenance. Y’all, I was stunned like a deer in the headlights.

There was a load of questions that flooded my brain. The main question I was pondering was, “Can I do this?” It was overwhelming.

Looking back, I still love that job. Not only was it completely evident and an undeniable blessing from God. It pushed and pulled me in more directions and showed me I would never stop growing or learning in my career. I killed it! It turns out that I was better in an analytical and technical career field compared to any creative field.

Currently, I am retraining myself to transition over into another career field. Growing, learning, and adapting to today’s job economy will never end.

It’s okay to not know.

Really, take the pressure off yourself. Remind yourself that God knows.

I would have never in a million years believed that I would excel in a technical career field. God knew what was best for me!

So…Enjoy the journey! Let it be a constant learning and growing process of living life one day at a time! Give your all for the glory of God and work hard!

Keep in mind…

As I said up above, Frodo and Sam made lots of mistakes in their journey to Mt. Doom. You will too! It is okay to make mistakes because you will learn and grow from them!

Hope you are having a great week! Congratulations! You did it!

One Day At A Time

Happy Friday everyone!

I have enjoyed writing this series. I had a handful of ideas left to write about and realized each post would amount to a few minuscule blog posts.  That is why I chose to combine them into one post. When I saw that this would my tenth post, I thought this would be a great way to end this series.

More Ideas for ‘What To Do’

Breakfast

Normally, the limited amount of time before the work day begins provides little time to fix a nutritious breakfast. Usually, I would grab and go. What about you? Now, there is plenty of time to fix a normal breakfast.

Reading

When you work a normal 9 to 5 job, there is not as much time to allow for reading. How many books do have on a ‘To Read’ or ‘Want to Read’ list? Now there is a little bit more time to catch up and read some of the books that you have on your list.

Audiobooks

Personally, I spend a lot of time working on the computer.

My prefered method of reading is on a device like my Kindle. When my eyes are tired after a long day of work, the last thing I really want to do is look at another screen so I listen to audiobooks.

Play Games

Have more game nights. There are tons of card and board games to be played.

My top favorites:

  1. Skip-bo
  2. Clue (There is also a Downton Abbey version of Clue.)
  3. Sequence
  4. Gin Rummy

iPhone/iPad games

I have my normal games that I play on my iPhone and iPad.

  1. Angry Birds – any version
  2. Asphalt 9 – easier to play on an iPhone
  3. Covet
  4. Design Home
  5. SimCity
  6. Legendary – Yes, this is an RPG game. Bottom line, if you like matching games with deeper strategy I highly recommend it.

I encourage you to take each day one at a time. Keep moving forward and don’t stress. Hope this series has given you some ideas for ‘What To Do’.

I was inspired to created a simple, bright, and cheery design piece to add to my Motivation Collective store.
